Join host Jennifer Bosma and guest Shilo Creed (best‑selling, multi‑award author and youth pastor) as they discuss how to raise children who can recognize truth in today’s confusing culture. This episode covers how a personal encounter with mortality transformed Shilo’s faith and parenting priorities, and why living out faith publicly — from missions to everyday acts of trust — helps kids see God’s power in real life.
Topics include practical ways to move from anxiety to trust, renewing your mind with Scripture, giving children a lasting understanding of salvation, and creating family rhythms (devotions, sharing highs and lows, service) that make faith personal rather than merely inherited. Jennifer and Shilo emphasize the importance of involving kids when parents take faith risks so children can witness God’s faithfulness firsthand.
They address navigating cultural pressures at school and in society, equipping teens with Scripture as a firm foundation, and helping kids develop resilience when their faith draws pushback. Shilo shares how Christian fiction — including her sci‑fi novel Plunged — can inspire courage and spiritual growth in teens and adults alike.
Expect down‑to‑earth examples (mission trips, tithing, ministry involvement), youth‑pastor wisdom on talking with teenagers, and practical tips for moms to teach Scripture application in the car, at the dinner table, and during life’s unexpected storms. The episode closes with resources for connecting with Shilo and links in the show notes for her books and recommended next steps.

On this episode of the Front Parking Spot podcast, host Jennifer Bosma speaks with Kim Patton — an adoptive and foster mom living in Ohio, author, and podcast host — about her winding journey from infertility to open adoption and two years of fostering teenage girls. Kim shares candid stories about the chaos and beauty of mixed family life, what open adoption looks like in practice, and how faith shaped her decisions along the way.
Topics covered include: Kim’s personal adoption story and why she chose open adoption; the realities of fostering teenagers alongside young biological children; practical ways to get involved in foster care (from volunteering and respite care to becoming licensed); how to pursue fostering as a united couple and the importance of prayer; and simple, everyday ways to serve and teach children empathy and life skills.
Kim also offers spiritual and emotional guidance for moms navigating hard seasons — infertility, marital struggle, grief, or parenting challenges — encouraging listeners to find identity in Christ (referencing Ephesians), to take negative thoughts captive, and to practice grace with themselves. She emphasizes keeping conversations positive about birth families, preparing kids for identity questions, and continuing to pray for foster children even after they leave your home.
Practical takeaways and resources highlighted: start slowly if you feel called to foster (volunteer, provide respite, or support local foster families), keep your spouse involved and committed, use open adoption to maintain respectful relationships with birth families when possible, and prioritize prayer and honest conversations with your children. Kim recommends Rosaria Butterfield’s The Gospel Comes with the House Key for inspiration on radical hospitality and mentions her own work — the book Nothing Wasted Struggling Well Through Difficult Seasons and a Foster Mama Journal — plus her Book Therapy podcast and KimPatton.com as places to learn more.
Listeners can expect a faith-centered, practical, and heartfelt conversation full of real-life examples, actionable next steps for getting involved in foster or adoption work, and encouragement for moms to rest in God’s identity and purpose during every season of family life.

Join host Jennifer Bosma on the Front Parking Spot podcast as she interviews husband-and-wife team Eric and Mayana Fredrickson of Recovering Reality. This episode is tailored for faith-based moms who want practical, spiritually grounded help for themselves and their families. Expect personal stories, honest testimony, and actionable next steps for spiritual growth.
Eric shares his journey from 13 years trapped in addiction to more than 17 years of sobriety, describing overdose, courts, rehabs, and a radical encounter with Jesus. A biblical life coach and bestselling author, he brings 7,000+ hours of one-on-one coaching and a core message: sobriety isn’t enough—lasting freedom comes from addressing the identity and beliefs beneath the behavior. Mayana, originally from Brazil and a longtime follower of Christ, explains how she helps women rediscover identity in Christ, overcome cultural conditioning, and lead with emotional and spiritual maturity while homeschooling their three boys.
Topics covered include the difference between religion and relationship, renewing the mind (Romans 12:2), practical spiritual disciplines (a simple morning routine of reading, writing and prayer; suggested Scripture reading from Psalms, Proverbs and the Gospels; journaling and fasting), and how encounters with God accelerate transformation. They discuss how community, consistency and discipline unlock growth, and how lifestyle evangelism and hospitality reveal a distinct Christian witness.
Key takeaways include the distinction between condemnation and conviction, why identity in Christ matters more than behavior modification, how the 12-step principles connect to Scripture, and the importance of intentionally choosing what you feed your mind. The episode also highlights cultural differences around community and offers encouragement for moms feeling isolated or stuck.
Resources and next steps: Eric and Mayana explain how to connect with Recovering Reality (podcast, YouVersion devotionals, Instagram) and invite listeners to a free breakthrough call to clarify where they are and how coaching might help. Tune in to hear hope-filled testimony, practical tools, and faith-based coaching ideas to help you and your family walk in greater freedom and identity in Christ.

Digital addiction and wisdom for this Father's Day.
In this episode of the Front Parking Spot podcast, host Jennifer Bosma talks with Doug Moore, a former wilderness trail guide, youth pastor, and current registered nurse and author of The Vanguard Project (released March 2026, available on Amazon). Designed for moms, dads, single parents, grandparents, coaches, and mentors, the conversation focuses on equipping families to lead children and teens through the modern threats of digital addiction, pornography, and AI-saturated content.
Topics covered include: why kids develop a "digital fog" and the behavioral signs parents should watch for; specific risky platforms and features (including examples such as Roblox and Minecraft); how dopamine and rewired reward pathways fuel compulsive use; and practical tools for responding when exposure occurs. Doug shares field-tested strategies such as on-ramp (open-ended) questions to start hard conversations, the HALT protocol (Hungry, Angry, Lonely, Tired), which often precedes risky use, device audits conducted in a non-shaming way, and the Shield Wall model, which enlists trusted adults as a support network.
Listeners will hear real stories—from wilderness guiding to clinical nursing experience—and concrete language parents can use immediately, including scripts for reassuring a child who accidentally encounters pornography and for approaching kids who seem withdrawn. The episode also addresses how parents who struggle themselves can model vulnerability, seek help, and still lead courageously. It previews supplemental resources: a field manual-style book, one-day father-son conferences, and forthcoming tools for girls.
What to expect: practical, compassionate next steps, example questions and scripts you can use at home, red flags that indicate deeper problems, and encouragement to start conversations now rather than wait. Show notes include links and contact information for Doug and Jennifer, as well as pointers to the book and the resources mentioned in the episode.

In this episode, Simone shares the story of hearing God’s call at age 20 and turning a $500 fundraising effort into a thriving nonprofit that provides education, nutrition, and holistic support to hundreds of children in Nakaseke, Uganda. Expect candid testimony about walking with chronic illness (rheumatoid arthritis and lupus nephritis), navigating medical school and residency with her husband, and adopting two sons through private adoptions after a long infertility journey. Simone explains how Simone’s Kids operates — a fully funded primary school of about 300 students, a high school serving around 370 students with vocational training to increase sustainability, and 37 scholarship university students — and how discipleship, local leadership, and dignity-focused programs confront spiritual and cultural challenges on the ground. Key moments include stories of God’s provision (board members and staff stepping in at crucial times), practical advice for faith-based moms trying to balance home and calling (including her quote: “You don’t have to choose between being faithful at home and your calling. God knows how to have you carry both.”), and vivid examples of the ministry’s impact: vocational graduates creating livelihoods, the peace of the campus, and how discipleship meets real spiritual needs. Join host Jennifer Bosma and guest Katherine Lanning as they dig into the root causes that can interrupt a woman’s true identity in Christ and walk listeners through practical steps toward lasting healing. This episode explores what it looks like to move from surface-level behavior change to a deep, internal transformation grounded in 2 Corinthians 5:17.
Katherine Lanning, a Christian occupational therapist, ministry leader, and founder of Transformed for Life, shares her background—balancing school-based and private OT work, leading Bible studies, and creating resources to help women integrate physical, mental, and spiritual health. She explains how past trauma, shame, and unmet needs can keep women stuck and why the right view of God is essential to healing.
Topics covered include identifying how childhood experiences shape how we see God, the importance of surrendering shame to Jesus, examples from Scripture (the prodigal son, the woman at the well, Mary Magdalene) that illustrate God’s compassionate response, and how truth from Scripture creates the safety needed for honest inner work.
Katherine offers practical, actionable advice for busy moms: prioritize time with the Lord, even in small pockets of the day; weave Scripture and worship into routine tasks; listen to audio Bible resources; and cultivate community—your “mat carriers”—to help bring you to Jesus. She also encourages seeking qualified Christian counselors or therapists when deeper processing is needed, as well as examining physical health and lifestyle factors that may affect emotional well-being.
Listeners will hear hands-on tips like delegating tasks, exploring local church women’s ministries and Bible studies (including childcare options), and taking the first brave steps toward rebuilding relationships with God and others. The conversation highlights realistic ways to create space for spiritual renewal amid the busyness of motherhood.
For those who want to connect with Katherine or learn more about her work, find Transform for Life on Instagram @transformedforlife2517, her private practice at @dr.katherine_lanning, and resources at transformedforlife.net. Join host Jennifer Bosma on the Front Parking Spot podcast as she talks with Kurt Avery, founder of Sawyer, about practical and faith-centered ways to get children outdoors this spring and summer. This episode blends parenting encouragement with hands-on tips for outdoor adventures and family safety.
Kurt explains why early outdoor experiences—watching ants, stargazing, hiking, gardening—help cultivate awe, resilience, and a deeper appreciation for God’s creation. He and Jennifer share simple activities for busy moms: create scavenger-hunt style adventures, start a small garden (tomatoes, beans, herbs), rotate locations to keep outings fresh, and use free stargazing apps to spark curiosity.
The conversation also covers Sawyer’s high-performance outdoor protection products: compact point-of-use water filters (trusted by hikers and the military), gentle insect repellents and clothing treatments for ticks and mosquitoes, sunscreens, and first-aid solutions. Kurt describes how Sawyer filters work, easy maintenance (back-flushing), safe use in boil alerts and hurricanes, treatment longevity for clothing and blankets, and practical tips for using filters on trails or by attaching to bottles.
Kurt highlights ways to involve kids in giving back: school or church fundraising to provide Sawyer filters overseas, tracking recipient families, and local service projects like food banks and yard work. He shares powerful impact stories—how affordable filters can eliminate waterborne illness in villages, reduce child mortality, and even stop stunting—illustrating how outdoor education and philanthropy build compassion and purpose in children.
Expect actionable, mom-friendly guidance on keeping kids safe and engaged outdoors, product recommendations, and inspiration to turn ordinary nature moments into lessons of faith and service. For more information and to shop or support projects, visit

Join host Jennifer Bosma on the Front Parking Spot podcast as she welcomes guest Alli Patterson, teacher, author, teaching pastor at Crossroads Church, and mom of four, for a conversation about making Bible study personal, practical, and life-giving. This episode is made for faith-based moms who want fresh ways to connect with the Holy Spirit during their quiet time and influence their family’s spiritual growth.
Alli shares the heart behind her spirit-led approach and outlines six practical practices that help the Bible come alive. Key techniques discussed include careful observation (looking for verbs and details on the page), orientation questions (who, when, where), praying through the scriptures, and listening for the Lord as you read. She explains how these simple habits create openings for the Holy Spirit to bring personal insight and direction.
The episode includes a powerful real-life example — Alli’s experience reading Acts 12 and how the verbs in the passage shifted her parenting approach during her daughter’s recovery from an eating disorder. That story models how Scripture can intercept your life with correction, clarity, and practical next steps when you learn to observe well and apply what you see.
Alli gives friendly reading recommendations for moms who struggle to start or stick with Bible time: narrative books like Genesis, an action-oriented Gospel like Mark, and wisdom books such as James (paired with Proverbs). She emphasizes starting small (even five minutes is better than zero), using a pen to underline and date entries, and doing the work in community so the Spirit can move through shared observations.
Listeners will come away with concrete next steps: use simple tools to increase the Spirit’s access during Bible reading, practice observation before interpretation, pray Scripture back over your people and situations, and lean into the ways God’s character and faithfulness are revealed through repeated Scripture exposure. For resources and follow-up, Alli can be found at AlliPatterson.com and on Instagram and Facebook at TheAlliPatterson, and her teaching is available through Crossroads Church.
Expect encouragement, practical exercises, memorable examples, and an invitation to let the Holy Spirit turn routine Bible reading into encounters with a living, guiding Father — perfect for busy moms wanting more life from their quiet time.

Hey There, Mama!
Welcome to the Front Parking Spot Podcast!
It seems like yesterday when I was taking all three of my daughters (ages 6,4,2) to a local amusement park. I had a year pass, so why not? Driving up, the parking lot was packed. It seemed I needed to head for the back. I decided to take a chance, and I went for the front parking spots, and guess what? There wasn't one but two open spots! I zipped into one of them and unloaded. A life theme had just begun. So many people settle for the back spots, but it's usually available if you take a chance and go for the front parking spot. How does this relate to your life? In every way imaginable with God at the helm. So, live by Ephesians 3:20 and go for the front parking spot in your life today. If you take the chance and go for it, you'll be amazed at how the opportunities will open up!
