In this episode of the Front Parking Spot podcast host Jennifer Bosma welcomes Melissa Schulz, a parenting coach and behavior analyst recognized as the Best Parenting Coach in the United States (Evergreen Awards, 2025). Melissa—who is also a mom of three and has two neurodiverse children—shares her 20+ years of professional experience and personal insight helping families of strong-willed, highly sensitive, and neurodiverse kids turn daily struggles into calmer, more connected moments.
Topics covered include common struggles parents face (repeating instructions, yelling cycles, not getting ready on time, screen battles), how to get children to listen, and how to move from symptom-focused reactions to discovering root causes. Melissa explains why kids tune out, how an accidental cycle of repetition-and-yell forms, and practical ways to break it: say the instruction once, get face-to-face, use a clear three-times-and-follow-through rule, and tie consequences to privileges like screen time.
The episode also addresses intense moments like meltdowns—especially in the car—and concrete calming strategies: using playlists and noise-cancelling headphones, playful car games or podcasts, intentional pull-overs to reset, modeled breathing and quick prayers, and short breaks or partner switches when a parent needs to step away. Melissa emphasizes that regulation is a skill to teach, not a character flaw to punish.
Jennifer and Melissa discuss how to uncover the underlying causes of misbehavior rather than simply reacting: adopt a detective mindset, track patterns by writing behaviors down for a week, ask curious questions (when calm), and collaborate with older children to co-create plans. They also highlight that emotional awareness and verbal ability develop on different timelines—some kids may speak well but need coaching to label feelings and connect triggers to behavior.
Melissa offers practical self-care habits for parents to feel calmer and more capable—prioritize sleep, nutrition, simple movement, short prayers, and micro-breaks—and encourages relinquishing perfection and shame by relying on God’s strength. She mentions resources available to listeners, including a free guide titled "How to Get Kids to Listen," monthly webinars and events, and ways to connect: melissashultz.com and social @confidentlymommin.
Listeners can expect faith-based, boots-on-the-ground parenting advice: real, actionable strategies for strong-willed and neurodiverse kids, encouragement for overwhelmed moms, and tools to build lasting connection and calmer family rhythms. Tune in to walk away with specific techniques to try today, a biblical, grace-filled perspective, and directions to helpful resources from Melissa Schultz.

In this episode, Jennifer Bosma interviews Dr. Benjamin Long, a dual-board-certified sleep medicine physician and pediatrician, about the sleep challenges moms face. They cover infant sleep (the ‘fourth trimester’, timing and myths around sleep training, safe sleep and co-sleeping risks in the American context), practical tips (sound machines, crib mattress safety, the ‘snoo’ mattress vibration devices), and advice for exhausted moms dealing with insomnia. Dr. Long explains his ‘sleepless night rules’—a faith-informed adaptation of cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia—emphasizing routines, getting out of bed when you can’t sleep, connecting with God, and resisting daytime naps. They also discuss when medications or supplements might be appropriate, the limits of quick fixes, and the importance of context and support. The episode closes with encouragement that sleep struggles are often seasonal, that spiritual practices can reframe sleepless nights, and that resources, including Dr. Long’s Sleep Habits Journal and his website, are available. Join host Jennifer Bosma on the Front Parking Spot podcast as she talks with Rick and Clancy Denton of The Loud Quiet about the joyful—and sometimes awkward—transition into the empty nest. Jennifer introduces the Dentons, empty nesters who launched their own podcast after their daughter left for college and now share candid stories about reconnecting as a couple, embracing new adventures, and building community in this vibrant season of life.
In this episode, they cover practical parenting wisdom for every stage: how to be honest with your children at their level (from questions about babies to Santa), the art of parenting from a distance as kids head to college and shifting your role from director to coach by asking more questions and offering guidance without taking over. They share a real freshman-roommate challenge that illustrates when to step back, when to offer ideas, and how trust built earlier makes tough conversations possible.
The conversation also includes concrete advice for young parents—don’t pull away too early, invest in your teenagers while you still have them at home, and give kids enough freedom to learn from mistakes without causing permanent harm. For parents with college-age or returned adult children, the Dentons emphasize setting clear expectations and boundaries when kids come home and negotiating a respectful rhythm for household life.
For empty-nesters, Rick and Clancy stress intentionality: create new community (they started an Empty Nest Life Group), say “yes” to new experiences (travel, classes, activities), revive hobbies you enjoyed as a couple, schedule regular date nights, and dream together about the future. Their encouragement to model a joyful marriage and remain intentional about connection is woven throughout the episode.
Guests’ resources: find Rick and Clancy’s podcast and community at theloudquiet.com and their new book on Amazon. Tune in for heartfelt stories, practical tips, and a faith-centered perspective on parenting, marriage, and embracing the next chapter.

On this episode of the Front Parking Spot podcast, host Jennifer Bosma welcomes Desiree Taylor — first-time author, speaker, mentor, wife and mom of two — to talk about living a relationship with Jesus when motherhood and life aren’t neat. Desiree, who is deaf and uses bilateral cochlear implants, shares how her faith grew out of legalism into a living, messy, authentic relationship with Christ.
Listen for Desiree’s personal story: growing up in a strict, religious environment, becoming a young mom, walking through seasons of isolation and depression, and parenting two adult sons (one walking with the Lord and one who has been a prodigal). She explains how the hard parts of her life — including her disability — deepened her dependence on God and became powerful tools for empathy, perseverance, and ministry.
Topics covered include practical ways to model faith for your children (quiet times that happen in the middle of life, not just in private), how to apologize and model humility when parenting, and why it’s okay for a mom’s faith to be messy and visible. Desiree also talks about learning to draw near to God during seasons of doubt, using worship and consistent prayer to shut out competing voices, and seeing God answer the “whys” in time.
Desiree describes the calling behind her book, Created to Relate: Living Beyond Religion — an 8–10 year journey of writing and healing intended to help moms move from checklist religion into relational faith, avoid regrets, and parent with freedom. She offers encouragement and mentorship for faith-based moms who want practical, heart-level ways to grow spiritually and influence their families.
Key takeaways: faith can be lived aloud amid messy motherhood; disability and hard seasons can deepen dependence on God; the best testimony may be how you handle mistakes; and God answers the whys, often in His timing. For listeners wanting to learn more, Desiree can be found on her website and Substack (links are available in the episode show notes).

In this encouraging episode of the Front Parking Spot podcast, host Jennifer Bosma talks with Andrea Fortenberry — author, speaker, ministry leader, host of The Perfectionist’s Guide to Mothering podcast and leadership development manager at MomCo. They discuss Andrea’s new book Two-Minute Timeouts for New Moms (released April 7) and how faith-filled, practical soul care can fit into the margins of busy parenting.
Topics covered include the importance of asking for and receiving help, navigating seasons of motherhood, overcoming perfectionism and comparison, and how to respond to mom guilt without getting stuck in shame. Andrea and Jennifer share candid stories about juggling work, ministry, and family, and explore how pride and unrealistic expectations keep many moms from getting the support they need.
You’ll hear tangible, faith-based tips you can use right away: give yourself permission to receive help (babysitting, meal support, or friends who simply show up), lean into your strengths and outsource or trade for what you don’t love doing, use childcare or nursery time to be refreshed, and model apology and forgiveness to your children when you mess up. Andrea explains her Two-Minute Timeouts idea — short, doable devotions and spiritual snacks throughout the day — so moms can connect with God even when prolonged quiet time isn’t possible.
The episode also highlights MomCo’s role in building community for mothers, practical leadership and curriculum work Andrea does, and resources like her podcast and book for continued encouragement. Expect heartfelt honesty, biblical wisdom, and practical resources to help you show up as a healthier, more grounded mom.

Moms, do you want to prevent your children from renouncing their faith and becoming an atheist? In this episode of the Front Parking Spot podcast, host Jennifer Bosma welcomes former atheist, MIT graduate, attorney, and author Doug Ell to walk listeners through the scientific and philosophical reasons that led him back to belief in God. Through personal story and decades of study in math, physics, law, and molecular biology, Doug explains key topics including DNA as digital code, the improbability of life arising by chance, molecular “3D printers” and proteins, genetic switching systems, findings from the ENCODE project, quantum entanglement, and why the fine-tuning of the universe points beyond naturalistic explanations. He shares practical advice for parents: ask questions back when your child raises doubts, introduce age-appropriate resources (including his graphic novel The God Proofs and short animated videos at thegodproofs.com), and teach children the scientific reasons for faith so they’re prepared for college and secular challenges. The conversation covers how to start with what kids know (their own bodies), recommended websites and books, and how to have thoughtful, calm conversations rather than reactive arguments. Expect stories, clear examples, and actionable steps for faith-based mothers who want to strengthen their children’s spiritual foundation through science, wonder, and dialogue.

Hey, moms, this podcast today is not for little ears. The message today is twofold. It's about prevention and healing of sexual abuse. Stay tuned for the From Parking Spot podcast.
Join host Jennifer Bosma and guest Tiffany Brearton — author, speaker, and founder of She Was Made for More — for a raw, faith-filled conversation about survival, redemption, and action. Tiffany shares her personal story of childhood sexual abuse, her years in the adult entertainment industry, and how encountering the love of God brought healing and purpose. You’ll hear about her books From Stilettos to Grace and From a Mess to His Message, and how she now mobilizes churches and communities to bring hope to exploited women.
This episode covers practical prevention and protection strategies for parents: keeping open lines of communication with children, teaching and respecting bodily boundaries, believing children when they disclose abuse, recognizing the “uh-oh” feeling as an early warning, cautious approaches to sleepovers, and how to respond if a child reports inappropriate touching. Jennifer and Tiffany emphasize the importance of early intervention to reduce long-term harm.
The conversation also highlights community response and resources: advocacy and outreach through ministries like She Was Made for More and Hadassah’s Hope, pregnancy center partnerships, ways to volunteer (from in-person outreach to assembling care packages), and how churches can be mobilized to bring compassionate, non‑judgmental help to vulnerable women. Tiffany offers encouragement for anyone who wants to get involved and points listeners toward local connections and support.
Key takeaways include the prevalence of childhood sexual trauma, the need to break the silence, practical steps parents can take today to protect their children, and the power of faith and community in healing and prevention. This episode is both a testimony and a call to action for moms who want to make a difference in their families and neighborhoods.

Host Jennifer Bosma records this Easter-weekend episode of the Front Parking Spot podcast from her home in Neptune Beach (you may hear neighborhood sounds) to share the backstory of her third children’s book, God Is Three in One. She explains how a simple question from her four-year-old granddaughter — “Who’s the Holy Spirit?” — and a chicken-and-egg analogy sparked the idea of teaching the Trinity to kids.
Jennifer walks listeners through her creative and spiritual process: noticing the egg analogy in her granddaughter’s backyard, praying on the idea, and how the manuscript poured out in rhyme. She explains why Acts and Genesis appear in the book, how she structured it in three voices (God the Father, God the Son, God the Holy Spirit), and how she incorporated scripture and a further-study page to help parents and older children explore the doctrine more deeply.
The episode highlights key collaborators: illustrator Beth Snider (whose artwork Jennifer praises for sensitively representing the subject), pastors and other reviewers who helped ensure biblical accuracy, and TLC for book design. Jennifer also shares that God Is Three in One won third place in the 2025 Christian Market Book Awards from the Advanced Writers and Speakers Association.
Listeners hear Jennifer read selections from the book, see how the rhyming cadence invites children to join in, and learn why the book is recommended for ages 3 and up. She emphasizes that the story sparks meaningful, age-appropriate conversations about faith and that the back matter (definitions and study notes) is especially useful for parents and teachers.
Practical details are included: how to order a copy (direct from jenniferbosma.com for the special inside-cover content, via Endgame Press, or through Amazon and Barnes & Noble), and Jennifer’s encouragement to use the book as a tool for family devotion and Easter teaching. The episode blends personal anecdote, a live reading, and takeaways for parents who want a gentle, biblically grounded way to introduce the Trinity to young children.

In this episode of the Front Parking Spot podcast, host Jennifer Bosma talks with DJ Logory, creator of Be That Guy, about practical, faith-friendly ways moms can help their sons move from “stuck” to confident, disciplined young men. DJ explains his coaching approach—combining hard skills (confidence, discipline, habits, job and school readiness) with soft skills (empathy, listening, kindness)—and how it gives families peace of mind while helping sons build the lives they love.
Jennifer and DJ walk through three hands-off strategies moms can use immediately: 1) Get your son a mentor (an outside voice like a coach, teacher, pastor, or trusted male leader) so guidance lands differently than it does from Mom; 2) Use vulnerability—share a personal, tough story over a meal to build trust and emotional connection; and 3) Shape his environment—subtly create visual cues and gentle friction (leave a brochure on the counter, put a book on the controller, model healthy routines) to make better choices easier.
The episode also covers habit-building tactics influenced by Atomic Habits (author James Clear) make habits visual (use printed calendars and tracking) and add “bumpers” (small environmental supports such as putting running shoes by the bed or a book on the steering wheel) to increase follow-through. They discuss how moms can influence sons who have left home—using conversations about possible future pain and arranging mentor support—and emphasize modeling positive behaviors at home.
DJ and Jennifer recommend further reading (Atomic Habits, Deliberate Discomfort, and other practical titles), highlight the importance of accountability and community, and share real examples of young men who changed through simple, consistent steps. Connect with DJ here:

Hey There, Mama!

Welcome to the Front Parking Spot Podcast!

It seems like yesterday when I was taking all three of my daughters (ages 6,4,2) to a local amusement park. I had a year pass, so why not? Driving up, the parking lot was packed. It seemed I needed to head for the back. I decided to take a chance, and I went for the front parking spots, and guess what? There wasn't one but two open spots! I zipped into one of them and unloaded. A life theme had just begun. So many people settle for the back spots, but it's usually available if you take a chance and go for the front parking spot. How does this relate to your life? In every way imaginable with God at the helm. So, live by Ephesians 3:20 and go for the front parking spot in your life today. If you take the chance and go for it, you'll be amazed at how the opportunities will open up!
